Obituary: FRANKFORT, Ky

Earl E. Garrison, former superintendent of Cumberland County schools and former director of finance for the state Department of Education, died yesterday at King's Daughters Memorial Hospital. He was 83. His wife said he had suffered a heart attack Wednesday. Garrison, a native of Allen County, worked for the Department of Education for 31 years before retiring in 1976. He had been Cumberland County superintendent for about 10 years before World War II, when he worked for the ordnance arsenal in Milan, Tenn. He also had previously been a teacher and principal at schools in Allen County. Garrison was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and held a master's degree from the University of Kentucky. He was a former member of Frankfort Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Garrison; a daughter, Marjorie J. Allen of Lexington; four brothers, Lester Garrison of Glasgow, Hobert Garrison of Scottsville, Hoy Garrison of Indianapolis and Ray Garrison of Flossmoor, Ill.; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at First United Methodist Church in Frankfort, with burial in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at LeCompte-Johnson Funeral Home in Frankfort after 3 p.m. today and at the church after 10 a.m. tomorrow
