Kentucky Obituary: SCOTTSVILLE

A 38-year-old Scottsville man drowned Sunday night in Barren River Lake, about 10 miles northeast of Scottsville. The victim was James Edward Simmons. Simmons, who couldn't swim, fell out of a pontoon boat at 9:30 p.m. near the Walnut Creek boat dock, Allen County Coroner Lex Carter said. Officials found Simmons' body at 1:30 a.m. yesterday in water 19 to 20 feet deep, Carter said. Simmons' survivors include his wife, the former Anna Jean Witt; a son, Wade White; a daughter, Melissa Roberts of Cookeville, Tenn.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Simmons of Fountain Run; four brothers, Jimmie Simmons of Tompkinsville and Billy, Roger and Michael Simmons, all of Fountain Run; a sister, Cathy Stinson of Gamaliel; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at Goad Funeral Home, with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. today.
