Kentucky Obituary: SCOTTSVILLE

The husband of a Scottsville woman who was found dead last week apparently killed himself Monday shortly before her funeral began. The body of Mark Dempsey, 29, was found by Mike Dempsey, his brother, around 1 p.m. at their father's home five miles north of Scottsville, Kentucky State Police and Allen County Coroner Lex Carter said yesterday. Preliminary results from an autopsy in Louisville yesterday indicated that Mark Dempsey died of a gunshot wound that was probably self-inflicted, Carter said. Dempsey's wife, Conella Hale Dempsey, 34, was found dead by her co-workers last Friday after she failed to report to work at Dollar General Corp., where she was a computer programmer. An autopsy determined that she died of suffocation. Her funeral was scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday; after a delay, it was conducted. State police are now investigating both deaths but are treating Conella Dempsey's death as a homicide. Goad Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements.
